Household
waste

Ordures ménagères

You can use our services for a turnkey processing unit, but also to modernize your current units. We will be at your side throughout our entire collaboration. This waste is biodegradable, and can play a natural role by returning to the state of compost. Thanks to our equipment, we make this process possible. Our achievements allow household waste to live a new life as compost, or as a new raw material, such as biogas. Valuing the waste of today to improve the world of tomorrow is essential to us.

We are able to offer solutions for the treatment of household waste, whatever it is.
We process millions of tonnes a year of this type of waste !

Household waste

Household waste includes recyclable waste, which joins the selective collection, but also non-recyclable waste, which joins the gray trash. Called residual household waste, they represent 44 kg per capita per year in France. In 2017 in France, more than a third of OMRs were made up of bio-waste. It contains 15% paper, 25% glass, metals and plastic, 10% textiles and sanitary, and 20% other waste.

Their future is multiple

  • Compost : this mainly concerns bio-waste.
  • Valorisation énergétique : waste becomes biogas. This mainly concerns agricultural waste.
  • RSF : recovery solid fuels. This material allows to feed structures using a fuel other than gas, and limiting pollution.
  • Disposal : we are talking about landfill, landfill storage, but also incineration.

What is recycled

Your remaining waste after sorting :

Leftover food

Products for hygienic use : tissues, cotton, mops, sponges

Animal litter

Various objects and toys (check the presence of the recycling logo)

Butts and their ashes

What is not recycled

Hazardous waste such as WEEE – Waste with Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Phones

Batteries

Batteries

Computers

Chargers

SDW (Specific Diffuse Waste)

Insecticides

Paints cans

Cleaners

Fertilizer

Some health-related products, such as expired drugs or syringes : bring them back to the pharmacy. This waste is marked with a bin crossed by a cross.

Expired drugs

Syringes

ITALY

Dry residual waste should be distinguished from household waste. Dry residual waste is waste that cannot be recycled or composted. It is the “remains” of waste after it has been sorted. It can then be recovered in the form of SSF – Secondary Solid Fuel. They are used to produce energy in industrial facilities such as cement works.

What is recycled

Nappies and sanitary towels

Toys

Plastic cutlery

Records and VHS

Plastic coffee capsules

Ceramic, porcelain, Pyrex or glass-ceramic objects

Dust

X-rays

Photo film

Slides

Light bulbs

Office supplies

Brushteeth

Sponges

Laminated and thermal greaseproof paper

Baking paper or soiled paper

Wet wipes

Clothes

Extinguished cigarette butts

Straw

Disposable masks

Mirrors and crystals

Glasses

Litter sand

What is not recycled

Leftover food

Recyclable waste

Drugs

Wood ash

Hazardous waste such as WEEE

This waste should be disposed of in the grey bin, always in a transparent bag.

Organic waste

This is all kinds of organic waste that we process: food waste, green waste, agricultural waste, waste from the food processing industry and catering waste.

This waste is biodegradable and can play a natural role again by returning to the compost state. Thanks to our equipment, we make this process possible. We process millions of tonnes of organic waste per year.

Sorting and recovery of food waste

Food waste mainly concerns household waste: food scraps, peels, tea leaves, shells (eggs, nuts, etc.)… They are currently to be disposed of in household waste, but as of 1st of Januray 2024 in France, they will have to be sorted with all biodegradable waste, to allow them a better recovery.

In France, nearly 10 million tonnes of food waste are thrown away per year. They account for nearly a third of household waste.

Green waste

Green waste concerns waste from plants, and mainly from the maintenance of green spaces, but also from households. These are tree branches, trimmed hedges, uprooted or faded plants, grass remains…

Depending on the place of residence, there are different solutions: it is possible to access waste centres, and some municipalities offer specific collection for waste. Check with your community. You can also compost and dispose of your own waste.

Agricultural waste

Agricultural waste concerns waste produced by the agricultural environment: in this case, for bio-waste, it is mainly inedible elements of the plants, plants that will not be consumable, or hay, leftover animal feed or litter.

They can be used again once sorted and recycled, as compost.

Waste from the food and catering industries

They concern waste produced by distribution, catering, markets, and industries: supermarkets, bakeries, deli meats, greengrocers, but also animal food or beverages. These are remnants of food, expired food, or not considered fit for consumption.

All these various foods will be used as compost.

ITALY

Sorting and recovery of organic waste

Only sorted separately, this waste will be given a second life in composting. This is mainly food waste : food scraps, coffee grounds or tea filters and various infusions, seafood shells. It also includes other types of waste that come from natural resources or have been in contact with human substances, such as paper towels and tissues, sawdust and extinguished and packaged wood ashes, paper towels, leaves and soil.

Bioplastics are made from cereals (corn or wheat starch) or sugar (sugar cane, beet, molasses), or even algae or wood. Bioplastics can be used to design a whole range of objects such as food and hygiene packaging, disposable crockery and bags. This form of plastic is also used in the automotive and construction industries.

To find out whether the object you have in your hands is made of bioplastic, simply check for the presence of one of these symbols :

Always use a biodegradable bag and never use plastic bags, and seal them securely ! Household waste is disposed of in brown containers.

Green waste

Green waste concerns waste from plants, and mainly from the maintenance of green spaces, but also from households. These are pieces of trimmed hedges, prunings or grass cuttings. Treated wood and tree stumps are not included.

Green waste is grouped with bulky waste. Contact your local council to find out about the type of collection, or you can shred and compost your waste !

Agricultural waste

Green waste concerns waste from plants, and mainly from the maintenance of green spaces, but also from households. These are tree branches, trimmed hedges, uprooted or faded plants, grass remains…

Considered as special waste, agricultural waste refers to waste produced by the farming community: in this case, for bio-waste, it mainly concerns used vegetable oils, sedimentation sludge and livestock effluents not recovered for agronomic purposes, plant waste not intended for reuse in normal farming practices.
They are destined for disposal.
All other materials derived from biomass are not considered to be waste. They are considered to be products produced by the agro-industry and used for agronomic purposes (such as compost).

SOME REALIZATIONS

With more than forty projects in more than twenty years, we are perfectly able to meet your demands in the design and construction of household waste treatment units. We have sites scattered throughout France, but also around the world: Italy, Qatar, Australia, Poland, India…
