With 440 000T of household waste to treat, the future multi – road treatment of household waste unit of Fos-sur-Mer, regrouping sorting, methanization and incineration will be one of the most important units in France and the most complete in Europe.

The other particularity of this unit dedicated to the sorting, composting et energetic valorization of the household waste it is that it will allow to recover the main families of products which can be recycled, largely present in the flow.

URBASER ENVIRONNEMENT, project manager of this gigantic project, entrusted the Groupe Vauché Europe (GVE) the conception and the realization of the process for the primary sorting unit, the secondary sorting unit, the setting in tunnel of drying and the screening of the digestat and finally treatment of the clinker.

GVE proposed an original process of Mechanical-Biological Treatment which supports the recovery of recyclable waste issued of the household waste.

A ballistic sorting in order to separate the bottles and the packing, a magnetical separation in order to collect the steel parts, a separation of the aluminium parts and an optical separation in order to recover the PET & PEHD.

Already envisaged on one of the 3 sorting lines of 35 T/hour each one, the process of recovery could be wide to the 2 existing sorting lines and to the 4th line for the project of extension.

This new tendency, encouraged by GVE was born from the report that even in the countries where the means of collections are very diversified one still finds a significant proportion of products which can be recycled, in the household refuse, up to 25% sometimes.

In addition to the objectives to be reached for a unit of MBT: to produce a compost, to stabilize by composting the organic fraction, to produce energy, the first finality remainder to reduce the parts or the weight of waste to be hidden or incinerate.

The recovery of waste which can be recycled which was generally a secondary purpose in the mechanical-biological treatment should become an important link.
